The Berlin Airlift
Berlin was divided between the four occupying nations of Germany after WW2. Yet it laid in the Soviet part of occupied Germany. Stalin wanted to completely control Berlin and force the other allies out of it. So roads that the western allies used to take supplies to their zones of occupation, were gradually closed to be “repaired”. The Western Allies then used air routes to bring fly in everything that their part of Berlin needed.Things such as food, water, toiletries, all other necessities of life, and candy. The efforts of the Berlin airlift were mostly from the United States, helped by the RAF and other nations, with a plane landing in Berlin during the blockade every minute or even less. After more then a year of the blockade Stalin realized he had lost and could not force the allies to give up their parts of Berlin. The was a great success for the Western Allies and a humiliation to the Soviets.
